The candidates are placed on a ballot for the selection committee (a distinguished panel of international judges). A preferential ballot is then conducted among the judges and the candidate with the most points is awarded the Gold Medal.
The Acta Gold Medal Awards in Material Science have been developed to demonstrate ability and leadership in materials and biomaterials research and technology.
Nominees are solicited each year from the Cooperating Societies and Sponsoring Societies of Acta Materialia, Inc. No editors are on the committee. It is a closed nomination process, the governors from the societies select the winner and generally choose a very well-established scientist that has a long track record and is well known in the field.
Award and Ceremony
A gold medal (worth USD $5,000), an inscribed certificate and a cash honorarium are awarded to the winner.
